Our Story

Article 48 Initiative (A48) is a legal, research and advocacy organization led by women with disabilities, working for the rights of persons with disabilities. We are committed to promoting, protecting, and raising awareness about access to justice on an equal basis with others. Our work centers on the intersection of disability, gender, and sexuality, guided by feminist principles to advance inclusion and non-discrimination. Founded in 2019 and officially registered in 2020, A48 is driven by professionals with disabilities from diverse fields including law, education, social work, and communication. The name is inspired by Article 48 of the Constitution of Kenya (2010), which mandates the State to ensure access to justice for all.

Our Mission

To promote the rights and wellbeing of women and girls with disabilities by ensuring access to justice and providing the resources, support, and opportunities they need to realize their full potential. Through advocacy, education, community engagement, and employment initiatives, we strive to build a world where women with disabilities are respected, valued, and empowered to thrive. We believe that every woman has the right to live a fulfilling life, and we are committed to breaking down the barriers that stand in their way. A just society where all persons with disabilities enjoy equal access to justice and are treated with dignity and equality.

Our Vision

A world where women with disabilities are valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential and thrive within inclusive communities.
